DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR
LEARNING TO FLY
Q.
In
Learning to Fly, Free risks everything to make
her life over. What’s the most dramatic change you’ve made
in your life? What price did it cost? Was it worth it?
Q.
Is there a path in your life—an invitation unanswered, a talent
you didn’t nurture—that you wish you had taken? Have the tradeoffs
been worth it?
Q.
Have
you ever known someone who you suspected was the victim of domestic violence?
Did you approach them about it? How did they react? What can friends do
to help a friend who is being abused?
Q.
Does reading about murder and violence capitalize on it?
Q.
Free finds that people treat her differently depending on how she is dressed.
Have you ever judged a person wrongly because of their appearance? Is
it wrong to make these kinds of quick judgments?
Q.
At the end of Learning to Fly, when Free is
sure she is about to be killed, she finds that everything falls away except
love. Do you agree? If this is true, then why do we focus on so many other
things?
